Week 2 - Part 3 of 4

How do you love yourself? What implications does this have for also loving your neighbor?

  1. In this time, we usually do a pretty good job of taking care of ourselves. I know if I go without a pedicure for too long I feel sad for myself. RIDICULOUS. We KNOW what our own needs are and do our very best to meet those needs... usually quickly! We have to first know our neighbors in order to know how to love them well. It was very obvious to those around us that we had a need for more hands to feed babies at our house when our three were born. Klint and I look back on that time not so long ago that we were desperate for other to help us make it through the day. All three of our babies came home from the NICU with severe reflux. We had to hold them up for twenty minutes after each feeding. With Klint working, it was obviously impossible for me to do this on my own. We were so grateful for the friends (and people who were at the beginning almost strangers) who saw our need and came into our home to help us. Their servant hearts (and hands!) have changed us.

  2. We both take pretty good care of ourselves. Having a kid that sometimes can be a challenge. You have to put their needs ahead of yours. You also have to sometimes put your neighbors needs and wants ahead of yours. In the end it makes you feel better and you are able to love yourself more.
